Cinematographer Michelle Lawler
Michelle Lawler is a Los Angeles-based cinematographer with years of experience in both film and television. Most recently, Lawler served as director of photography on four episodes of "The Boroughs" (2026) for Netflix, a supernatural sci-fi series produced by the Duffer Brothers, starring Alfred Molina, Geena Davis, Alfre Woodard, Denis O'Hare, Clarke Peters, and Bill Pullman.
Michelle was also the director of photography for eight episodes of "The Shrink Next Door" for Apple TV, an adaptation of the popular podcast helmed by director Michael Showalter, featuring an ensemble cast including Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd, and Kathryn Hahn.
Michelle also served as the cinematographer for the first four episodes of "The Dropout" (2022), a series based on the Elizabeth Holmes story, which earned an Emmy for Outstanding Limited Series. Again, Michael Showalter directed this project, with Amanda Seyfried in a starring role which earned her an Emmy for Best Actress.
In 2023, Michelle shot "Dicks: The Musical," produced by A24 and directed by Larry Charles, featuring Nathan Lane and Megan Mullally. Additionally, she lensed eight episodes of "Based on a True Story" (2023) for Peacock, starring Kaley Cuoco and Chris Messina.
Earlier in her career, Michelle lensed several episodes of Season 4 of HBO's Emmy award-winning series "Insecure" (2020). Michelle was named one of Variety's "10 Cinematographers to Watch" in 2020. She holds an MFA in Cinematography from The American Film Institute (AFI) and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Cinema from San Francisco State University. Outside of Cinematography Michelle is raising a prominent cactus garden in her Los Angeles yard and hangs out with her cute and friendly dog, Judy. She is represented by Artistry.
